Bulgaria may play major role in Middle East peace process
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov is on a two-day official visit to Damascus, where he met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Mladenov and al-Assad have discussed the will of the countries for further development of the bilateral relations. The situation in the region, as well as the role Bulgaria can play in the Middle East peace process was also discussed, keeping in mind Bulgaria’s experience as a Balkan country. Mr. Mladenov pointed out that peace in the Middle East is important for Europe and the whole world. The minister also said Europe must be more active in the peace process. Mr. Mladenov has also brought the Syrian President an invitation for a visit to Bulgaria by Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.
