A joint project of the municipalities of Montana (Bulgaria) and Pirot (Serbia), financed by EU funds and sponsored by the budgets of the two sides, is restoring an archeological site at Kaleto Hill near Montana. The site is an early Christian basilica from the 4rth century functioning in the Roman settlement of Montanensium. The restoration project was to the cost of 695 thousand euro.  Photo: BTA

Bulgarian bagpipe player Kostadin Ilchev, who conducted the formation, which had registered a Guinness Book record for the performance of 333 bagpipes in Sofia back in 2012, celebrated his 70th birthday with a concert. The event took place at Hristo Botev community center in Smolyan. All musicians from Ilchev’s family came out on stage to sing and play the bagpipe with him. The women’s bagpipe ensemble as well as bagpipe performers from all over the region also joined the concert. The region of Smolyan, in the Rhodope Mountain, is famous for its large groups of bagpipe players and individual virtuosos. Photo: BTA
