The Bulgarian nationals and over 3 million citizens of other European countries living in Great Britain will keep their statute and rights even if the UK leaves the European Union without deal, the European Chief Negotiator for the United Kingdom Exiting the EU Michel Barnier said at a meeting in Strasbourg with Bulgaria’s MEP Eva Maydell. The British government has assured Michel Barnier that the EU citizens will retain their current status and rights in case of a no-deal Brexit. Bulgaria’s MEP Emil Radev also voiced confidence that the EU will protect the rights of its citizens living in Great Britain and would not allow any discrimination against them after Brexit. He voiced concern that a no-deal Brexit will be a problem for the citizens of the United Kingdom who chose to settle in other EU member states as well. These people may lose pension rights and may have to pay more when they need health assistance, MEP Radev contends. The uncertainties around Brexit increased after the British Parliament rejected on Tuesday the deal with the EU.
