“The war on terrorism created terrorism”, said in Sofia film director Wim Wenders, President of the European Film Academy. Wenders was in Sofia for the 22nd Sofia Film Fest where he presented his latest ambitious project “Submergence”. One of the main characters in the film monitors al-Qaeda's activity on the Eastern coast of Africa, posing as a well-digging expert. Regarding the story, Wenders explained that he has great respect for Islam as a religion and has many Muslim friends, and that that is precisely why he does not think there is any honour in what terrorists do, adding he did not think there would have been such a problem with radical Islamists and groups had they not been so well trained by America’s politics and actions. The film director announced that in the spring of 2019 the world will see his latest documentary “A man of his word”, a look at Pope Francis.
