Colorful festivals make weekends in Bulgaria interesting

The Cherry Festival focuses attention on Kyustendil – the Bulgarian town popular for its cherry orchards. Traditionally, the Institute of Agriculture in the town will present promising varieties of cherries for the country and region. Various applications of the delicious fruit can be seen at the exhibition-bazaar of cherries and cherry products. A competition for the largest cherry, the most beautiful cherry stall and others provoke creativity of festival participants.

"Life in Plovdiv in the Middle Ages" is the name of the festival, which will be held for the first time in the city. Nearly 120 participants will present an authentic military camp; hold martial demonstrations; show medieval crafts, costumes and weapons and historically credible reenactments. Guests will be able to taste food and drinks prepared according to medieval recipes; play medieval games or engage in some of the ancient crafts - blacksmithing, pottery, armor knitting, making jewelry, etc. The event is part of the cultural calendar of Plovdiv Municipality for 2018.

A reenactment of the ritual of lavender harvesting will give start of the Lavender Festival, organized by "Ancient Karlovo" tourist complex and the local municipality. Guests will be invited to taste lavender and rose products. Visitors will also see the extraction process of lavender oil. A lavender parade with the participation of bagpipers will take the feast to the central town square, where citizens and guest will enjoy a rich program of authentic songs, dances and folk customs.
