The Bulgarian National Assembly adopted at first reading amendments to the Penal Code that envisage tougher penalties for domestic violence. Non- physical domestic violence (bullying and chase) will be penalized with up to 5 years in prison. The same offences in non-domestic conditions will be penalized with probation or 1 year in prison. The legislative amendments were proposed by National Assembly President Tsveta Karayancheva.
