The Bulgarian National Assembly Committee on Budget and Finance rejected President Radev’s veto on the Corporate Income Tax Act. The most discussed topic regarded the increased tax on older vehicles. The Chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Budget and Finance Menda Stoyanova defended the decision of the committee and explained that “owners of twenty- year-old (65 kw) vehicles who paid EUR 15 per year will now pay EUR 35 under the new methodology and the difference is roughly the price of a pack of cigarettes per month”. In President Radev’s view, a higher tax will not encourage the replacement of older cars with new ones and that the new rules will place the tax burden on the people with low incomes and the small and medium-sized business.
