Bulgaria’s swimmer Petar Stoychev won a new world title in swimming in icy waters in Murmansk, Russia. Stoychev covered the 1,000 meter distance in 12 minutes and 10 seconds and beat his personal best (by 5 seconds) scored in 2017 when he won the world title in ice Swimming Aqua Sphere World Championships in Burghausen, Germany. A total of 403 swimmers from 32 countries took part at the ice waters swimming in Lake Semenovskem. Stoychev competed with 41 athletes in his discipline. In 2007 Petar Stoychev became the first man on earth who swam across the English Channel (La Manche) for less than 7 hours (6:57:50). In 2009 he was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in the USA and was named the world’s best swimmer in open waters.
