The Bulgarian team won 19 medals at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi.
The country was represented by 18 athletes with intellectual disabilities aged 14 to 42. Four gold medals went to Vanya Ivanova, Iliana Tsvetanova, Tsvetelina Georgieva and Haris Hadzhiev. They triumphed in – the long jump, equitation, and swimming (25 m. backstroke).
Bulgarian athletes also won 7 silver and 8 bronze medals. The equestrian team grabbed the greatest number of medals – Tsvetanova, Georgieva and Viktor Hristov winning three medals each.
More than 7,500 competitors with intellectual disabilities and their partners without disabilities took part in 24 sports at the Special Olympics World Games held from 14 to 21 March in Abu Dhabi.
