White deer becomes media sensation

All Bulgarian media informed about a white deer spotted near the town of Karlovo (Central Bulgaria). Later, many people went to the forest and the meadows near the village of Medkovets hoping to see this beautiful animal. Like the white swallow, which is a symbol of hope for sound health and better life in the Bulgarian literature, people believe that the white deer brings new love. According to the Director of the Natural Science Museum of Plovdiv Dr. Ognyan Todorov, the white deer is a very rare phenomenon and in the species seen in Karlovo region is perhaps an albino.

The red deer /Cervus elaphus/ is a game species whose population in Bulgaria is stable. It amounts to nearly 30,000 species. Special care is taken in this country to maintain the species. In many countries, including Bulgaria, red deer is widely hunted, but only the male species are hunted in this country in very short periods of time during the year. Its antlers are precious trophy. The red stag world record according to CIC comes from Silistra, Bulgaria- 273.6 CIC points.
