Over 80% of the territory of Dragomansko marsh karst pond affected by the recent fire

Over 80% of the territory of Dragomansko marsh karst pond in Sofia district was affected by the fire that broke out last night. Two protected zones part of Natura 2000 network of protected areas were affected by the fire. An eco-path and a bird watching tower burnt in the flames of the recent fire. Bulgaria’s Minister of Environment and Water Emil Dimitrov visited the site. The authorities are still investigating the reasons for the fire. According to one of the versions, poachers caused the deliberate arson. The locality covers protected territories inhabited by rare animal and plant species.
