The number of COVID-19 deaths in Bulgaria rose to eight after a patient infected with the new coronavirus disease passed away in a hospital in Blagoevgrad (Southwest Bulgaria) on Sunday morning. Several hours earlier, the seventh COVID-19 death case was registered in the same Bulgarian city.

According to the epidemiologists, the type B influenza wave has already subsided in Bulgaria, but the COVID-19 wave is yet to come. The coronavirus stays in the human body for an average of 28 days, but in some cases infection remains for up to 37 days. 1,000 Bulgarian policemen will be tested for COVID-19. The Bulgarian authorities will use these results to build a statistical model. According to the head of the National Crisis Headquarters Major General Ventislav Mutafchiyski, no boom of coronavirus infection has been registered in Bulgaria and mortality rate is lower than in other countries.
