Squirrels are most numerous in the central part of Sofia, on the territory of “Izgrev” district. Though squirrels constantly lose parts of their natural territory, their population is sustainable and healthy, specialists say. Their natural habitats are tall trees in the greener parts of the cities. That is why Sofia’s greenest district – “Izgrev” – which is right next to Boris’Garden - offers the best living, feeding and breeding conditions for squirrels. “Izgrev” district is favoured by nature lovers also because of its nesting colonies of nightingales, one of which is the biggest in the city.
