An alternative congress of the Bulgarian Football Union - BFU has been held in Sofia. An election meeting of the union was scheduled for March 18 at the National Palace of Culture, but was canceled by the leadership due to ongoing cases in court.

However, candidate for President of the BFU, Dimitar Berbatov, came together with delegates from 82 football clubs in the country and voted to start the congress. Berbatov's team announced that the participants did not violate the law and would work according to all the rules so that their decisions could not be challenged in court.

Minister of Sports Radostin Vassilev was briefly present at the event and wished success to the delegates.

The current leadership of the Bulgarian Football Union called on the clubs not to split Bulgarian football.
