All agricultural products imported from Ukraine will be subject to increased inspections by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency starting today. This is what Galya Vikyova, the agency's deputy director, has told BNR.
The checks so far have not proven the presence of heavy metals and other prohibited substances, she said. 575 samples of Ukrainian grain were checked during the six months before the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain into this country came into force and none of them gave reasons to doubt the quality of the grain, Vikyova added.
The grain is being checked for heavy metals and radioactivity, genetically modified organisms and pesticide residues.
