Tsanko Tsankov is the world champion in ice-water swimming at the championships in Tallinn, Estonia, the Sports in Bulgaria Foundation announced. The Bulgarian swimmer beat his competitors in the 200m freestyle. He swam the 200m distance in the icy waters of the Baltic Sea in 2:08.83 minutes.

Earlier in the day, the Bulgarian swimmer also won the bronze medal in the 25m ice butterfly in 13:36.

More than 900 swimmers from 41 countries are competing at the 2024 Winter Swimming World Championships, which run until 9 March.

Tsankov holds the world record for non-stop 12-hour swimming in an open pool and is the only Bulgarian to have swum across the Strait of Gibraltar, BTA recalls.
