“Nocturnal characters” – this is the title of an exposition dedicated to Bulgarian theatre, which will be presented on 23 March in the historic centre of Rome, Italy. The exhibition is one of the most notable projects connected with the European Theatre Night initiative in Bulgaria, and presents a series of 21 photographs by Diliana Florentin and Tsvetan Ignatovski. Guided by the idea that “in the domain of theatre every role is a different realm”, the two photographers present the actors in “the light” of a theatrical dream, where each gives their rendition of the inner bond between the stage and their own private world.

The protagonists in the conceptual photographs are popular faces from Bulgarian theatre and ballet – directors Galin Stoev and Javor Gardev, actors Julian Vergov, Vladimir Karamazov, Deyan Donkov, Teodora Duhovnikova, Vladimir Mihaylov, Ovanes Torosyan, Vesela Babinova, Radina Kardjilova, prima ballerina Marta Petkova etc.

This is the first time “Nocturnal characters” is being shown outside the country – at “Bulgaria” gallery in Rome, to mark World Theatre Day, 27 March. The invitation for this came from the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Rome which is also organizing a meeting with an artistic Bulgarian family of three generations of actors. Dessislava Stoycheva and Atanas Atanasov, and their children Alissa and Yasen will talk about their path to the stage, how love happened at the theatre, how they got lost and were then found, what they talk about and what makes them laugh.
