The film Sujo wins the grand prize of Sofia Film Fest

The awards of the 28th Sofia International Film Festival were presented at a ceremony held at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.The film "Sujo" by Mexican directors Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez won the grand prize of Sofia Film Fest. Sujo, a co-production of Mexico, France and the United States, came to Sofia after winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival in January. The film tells the story of a boy named Sujo, who becomes an orphan in the world of adults and grows up under the shadow of violence - an integral part of everyday life in the drug cartel.

Stefan Komandarev’s Blaga’s Lessons was awarded two prizes- for best film in the "New Bulgarian Features’’ program, and the ‘’Film Critics’’ Guild of the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers- for a film in the Balkan competition of the festival.

The FIPRESCI Prize was awarded to "All About the Levkoviches" by Hungarian Adam Breier, which tells the story of an elderly boxing coach who finds common ground with everyone except his own son.

In the International Documentary Competition, the main prize went to "Soundtrack to a Coup d'État" by Belgian director Johan Grimonprez.

Renowned Bulgarian actress Tsvetana Maneva was awarded the "Sofia Award" of the Sofia Municipality - for her contribution to the art of cinema. The talented Serbian director Radivoje Andrić received the special award of Sofia Film Fest.
