US strategic bombers to participate in exercise over Bulgaria

Photo: armymedia.bg

Bulgarian and US pilots will practice simulated hitting of ground targets. Bulgarian pilots from Bezmer Air Base with SU-25 aircraft and US pilots with B-1 aircraft from Morón Air Base in Spain will take part in the exercise.

The B-1 is a supersonic strategic bomber. The B-1 air missions are part of the US contribution to heightened security measures in the Black Sea region. The goal is to demonstrate the US commitment to NATO's collective defense, the Ministry of Defense said. Such an exercise is being held for the second year in a row. Last February, B-52 bombers from the same Spanish base and MiG-29s also practiced simulated engagements.
